REACHING THE DESTINATION

In 2006, the first generation of Compact for Success students to be guaranteed admission to San Diego State University will have reached their destination -- entry into their first year of college and the promise to achieve their dreams of the future.

If we invest in the future of our students now, through the Compact for Success, will it make a difference in the future for all of us?

Absolutely -- and here is how it will make the difference.

We know we cannot afford to lose another generation. The future of our community depends on the next generation to lead, to be well informed and to guide our growth. We need the next generation to bring knowledge and skills back to the community (up to 75% will return to this community!), to be well informed and mentor future generations, to embrace and learn from the rich diversity of the community and to use education to raise the level of success for all families regardless of social, geographic or economic background.

In its partnership with SDSU and the Sweetwater Education Foundation, a unique and powerful message is being sent to every community in the nation -- that a school district, a public university and a foundation can work together to create solutions. We are a microcosm of what other communities and districts will be. The challenges we are facing today will be the challenges other communities will face tomorrow. That is why it is imperative that we create a solution for our students now and provide a model for other communities who will need our help in the future.
